The DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa has made a significant claim that a reputable state-sponsored scheme to eliminate the Wiper Democratic Movement’s power in the Ukambani region has been uncovered, which has led to a new political crisis in revelation.
During a political briefing in which he was in a hurry to speak, Wamalwa accused President William Ruto of using Mike Sonko’s political movement to slowly draw out the influence of Kalonzo Musyoka in preparation for the 2027 General Election.
The “Ukambani Blueprint,” Wamalwa’s illustration, revolves around the intelligent use of the National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA)—a party that was linked with the former Nairobi Governor—to form a “third force” in the Eastern region.
The government is supposedly bringing down the Kamba vote through its fragmentation, thereby facilitating a win by the Kenya Kwanza coalition in the opposition’s long-steadfast territory with a smaller number of votes.
Wamalwa’s revelation throws light on the estimated president’s tactical shift. The ruling power sits behind the scenes in the form of “proxy politics,” as opposed to a direct battle through the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is still receiving backlash from the region.
Sonko’s team entering the Ukambani territory is interpreted as a tactic to win the youth and urban voters who are possibly tired of conventional political considerations.
“The plan appears to be that Sonko would be the one that causes the uproar and then cement the image of Wiper as a party that has exhausted its political mileage,” said Wamalwa.
He pointed out that the increase in activities of groups who are allied to Sonko in Machakos and Makueni has been a well-planned strategy rather than an accident, as the purpose is to “damage the Kalonzo brand.”
One exclusive “twist” in Wamalwa’s assertion, which has been almost overlooked by the mainstream analysis, is the implication that this is not merely a Ukambani-centric operation but rather a comprehensive maneuver aimed at cutting off Kalonzo Musyoka from his “Super-Alliance” colleagues.
By locking the wiper leader into a localized “grassroots war” with Sonko, the government virtually disables him from playing the victor’s role on the national level and thus eliminates him as a viable 2027 presidential candidate.
Moreover, Wamalwa also pointed out that the ruling class is taking advantage of the skyrocketing prices of goods and the “Singapore Dream” talk to sell the NRA as an alternative “hustler-friendly” option for the region.
This psychological warfare is directed at the economic discontent of the local people and is portraying the opposition as “obstructive” to the development agenda.
The Wiper leadership has allegedly pulled back to devise its counter-strategies. According to insiders, Kalonzo Musyoka is prepping for a set of “counter-penetration” rallies that would not only solidify his reporting area but also unveil the NRA as a “Kenya Kwanza project.”
The stakes for President Ruto are enormous. If he manages to change the mind of just 20% of the voters from the Ukambani area, then the calculation regarding his re-election will be considerably easier.
For Eugene Wamalwa and the Azimio alliance, the battle over Ukambani is not simply a matter of one region; it is a struggle to keep their strongholds from being “Balkanized.”
As the political temperature goes up, the question is still open: Will a surge led by Sonko be able to bring down a Wiper machine that has been in place for decades, or is this just a “Singaporean” illusion in the parched Eastern lands?
