On Tuesday, February 11, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that Macharia was involved in an armed robbery on October 15, 2022, which led to the death of Greek national Angelos Tsekilas.

During the incident, Macharia and two accomplices shot Tsekilas in the chest and stole various items of undisclosed value.

“On October 15, 2022, along Menelik Road, Angelos Tsekilas, a Greek national, tragically lost his life after being shot in the chest. The gang of three men also took a variety of items of unknown value from the victim before fleeing on a motorcycle,” stated the DCI.

Following the incident, detectives from Kilimani Police Station launched an investigation and apprehended Macharia in his hideout in Gachie, Kiambu County, on October 21, 2022.

On December 28, 2022, he appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibera, where he faced charges of robbery with violence.

“Macharia was formally charged with robbery with violence under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code after his processing at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibera on December 28, 2022,” noted the DCI.
