Ruto’s appointment of ODM politicians in the cabinet has unsettled a lot of UDA elected leaders from regions where they hail from.
Take Mombasa County, for instance.
Joho’s entry into the cabinet and government has caused a tremor in Mombasa politics. RUTO himself wants to be closer to Joho more than Nyali MP Mohamed Ali who has been in UDA since its conception. It was funny watching Mohammed Ali squeeze himself between people trying to get Ruto’s attention; yes, Ruto was avoiding him. (One can tell clearly that Ruto was disinterested in engaging Ali).
Then, a meeting happened where Mohamed Ali was heckled to the point of telling the President to leave Mombasa county politics to Mombasa politicians. I’m sure Ruto has not directly interfered with Mombasa politics but by default, he has by appointing Joho into the cabinet. Joho isn’t just your Kawaida politician, but a person who came out as a Mombasa County Kingpin of some sort.
Going forward, Mohamed Ali will get it rough in Mombasa. Ruto, being the politician he is and with his re-election bid in mind, will do just about anything to have Joho on his side, even if it means throwing Mohamed Ali under the bus, sorry, under the ferry.
