A fatal accident occurred on the Thika-Garissa road. One individual died. This happened after a lorry collided with a stationary trailer at Kanyonyo Shopping Centre. Kanyonyo Shopping Centre lies at the border of Machakos and Kitui Counties.
The lorry was en route to Mwingi from Matuu when the incident took place. The turn boy of the lorry died instantly, and his body was taken to Mbaku Funeral Home in Matuu.
The Kanyonyo Junction has been identified as a black spot due to the frequency of accidents in the area. This incident follows a tragic event from June of the last year. During that event, eleven people lost their lives in a separate accident.
The accident involved an overloaded matatu that rolled off the road. The recent accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly at this notorious junction.
Just days before this accident, another incident in Nairobi claimed two lives. A Public Service Vehicle collided with boda boda riders. The matatu was reportedly speeding when it struck the riders, resulting in immediate fatalities.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for improved road safety measures and awareness among drivers and road users.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), over 1,000 people lost their lives in road accidents. This was between January and March 2024.
The NTSA has urged road users to exercise caution to prevent further tragedies. They emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and driving safely.
