A 30-year-old man tragically died on Langata Road in Nairobi. A matatu crushed him while he was alighting from the vehicle.
The incident occurred at the Carnivore bus stop on Friday, August 30, around 8 pm. The victim, identified as Keith Nyakundi, fell headfirst onto the road. He attempted to exit the moving matatu towards Rongai direction.
The police described the accident as devastating, with the matatu causing fatal injuries to Nyakundi. After the incident, the authorities visited the scene. They moved the body to the mortuary.
They also detained the matatu for further inspection and investigations. This unfortunate event adds to the increasing number of fatal accidents in the country. It is prompting calls for enhanced road safety measures.
In response to the rising road accidents, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) unveiled the plan. The plan is called the National Road Safety Action Plan (2023-2027).
The plan aims to reduce deaths and severe injuries by 50% in high-risk corridors and urban areas. The plan emphasizes the need for coordinated efforts between national and county governments. These efforts will improve road safety and prevent such tragic incidents from reoccurring.
