THE CABINET CAPTIVES: Sifuna Exposes Ruto’s “Hostile Takeover” of ODM Leadership

The “broad-based government” claim from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna suffered severe damage because he accused President William Ruto of selecting top ODM officials for Cabinet positions while ignoring the late Raila Odinga’s preferences.

Sifuna, who was recently purged from his role as ODM Secretary General, claims that the appointments of John Mbadi (Treasury), Hassan Joho (Mining), and Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) resulted from State House executing a “hostile takeover” instead of a party-based selection process.

The current “broad-based” alliance exists as a deceptive illusion according to this announcement. Sifuna, who claims to have created the first engagement framework, believes that President Ruto selected candidates for the final list to destroy the opposition from inside. Ruto has turned ODM’s top leaders into “cabinet captives” because he selected these individuals without obtaining official approval from the party’s central leadership and its founding head. The party has become a subsidiary of the ruling UDA.

Sifuna’s claim demonstrates urgent political needs, which reveal an ODM existential crisis. The party has lost its independence as an oversight body because it operates under government control through leaders who follow their appointing authority instead of their party’s ideology.

Sifuna’s ouster, which occurred just days before these explosive claims, is now being viewed as a retaliatory strike for his refusal to endorse Ruto’s 2027 re-election blueprint.

The political situation has reached a point where it has become obvious that a hidden agreement between parties has resulted in the presidential election process for 2027 being damaged through the transfer of party power to the government through ministerial appointments.

The supporters of the Orange party who lost their voting rights face a painful truth because their political heroes joined the government, which they needed to investigate. The “broad-based” mask has fallen, leaving behind a naked power play that has fundamentally broken the back of the official opposition.
