Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has boldly declared he would never accept a Cabinet position in President William Ruto’s administration – even if handed to him on a silver platter!
Appearing visibly unimpressed with the current regime, Sifuna didn’t mince his words. He torched the so-called “broad-based government” – a political marriage born from President Ruto’s shock alliance with longtime opposition titan Raila Odinga, which has seen several ODM loyalists handed top government posts.
During a fiery exchange on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda hinted that Sifuna had his eyes on the Gender CS position, recently filled by Hanna Cheptumo. But Sifuna’s response was pure fire:
“I know why he thinks that – women like me. Something he can’t relate to.”
Then came the bombshell:

“I have no interest in serving under this government. I will never join the Cabinet. I’m not Makau Mutua or any of those who’ve thrown principle out the window.”
The senator’s jab at Makau Mutua, Raila’s former presidential campaign spokesman-turned-Ruto advisor, left jaws on the floor.
And if you thought Sifuna might be plotting a power move in 2027 – think again.
“I’m staying put. I’ll only run for Nairobi Senator again. That’s it.”
His declaration comes amid growing tensions within ODM, as Sifuna and fellow party firebrands like Siaya Governor James Orengo continue to publicly lash out at colleagues cozying up to the Ruto government – accusing them of betraying the people and turning a blind eye to the struggles of ordinary Kenyans.
But pro-Ruto allies aren’t taking it lightly, branding Sifuna and co. as obstacles to national unity and saboteurs of progress.
🔥 The political temperature just hit boiling point, and it looks like the ODM fault lines are only getting deeper. Stay tuned.
