Shockwaves in Kenyan Politics: Rigathi Gachagua Exposes Truth Behind His Impeachment!

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has opened up about the circumstances leading to his historic impeachment, which saw Kithure Kindiki assume his role.

Speaking at Tetu Catholic Church on Sunday, January 5, Gachagua attributed his removal to his refusal to compromise on honesty and his resistance to the President’s alleged attempts to mislead the public.

“In the beginning, I believed we were working towards the same goals, but it quickly became clear it was all a facade. We visited Ruring’u, pledged to complete the stadium, yet two years later, nothing has been done. There are no roads, no water, no medicine in hospitals, and we’re expected to perpetuate lies to Kenyans,” Gachagua stated.

He claimed his impeachment stemmed from his advice to the President to stop making empty promises. “I told my boss we cannot continue deceiving Kenyans, and that’s when the efforts to oust me began because of my integrity,” he said.

On October 1, 2024, Kibwezi West MP Eckomas Mwengi Mutuse tabled an impeachment motion against Gachagua, citing 11 charges, including undermining presidential authority, graft, insubordination, and constitutional violations. The motion garnered overwhelming support, with 282 MPs voting in favor.

During the church service, Gachagua commended Catholic bishops for their unwavering commitment to truth and justice, applauding their criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration. “We thank our Bishops for being the voice of the people. While others remain silent, the church speaks as the nation’s conscience. Please continue,” he urged.

Since his impeachment, Gachagua has become a vocal critic of the government, demanding accountability on critical issues such as enforced disappearances. This has widened the divide between him and Kenya Kwanza leaders, with National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah accusing Gachagua of orchestrating the disappearances to tarnish President Ruto’s image.

Gachagua has strongly denied the allegations, maintaining his focus on advocating for transparency and justice.
