Former journalist Caroline Nyanga has opened up about a harrowing decade-long relationship with a man she later discovered was a witch doctor. Speaking on the Oga Obinna Show, the ex-Standard Media Group entertainment writer detailed how she was unknowingly lured into the relationship through what she believes were supernatural influences.
Nyanga recalled meeting the Congolese national, who was based in Tanzania, at her residence in Nairobi’s Komarock Estate. Although she initially had no feelings for him, she found herself drawn to him, which she attributed to the use of charms.
“I didn’t love him, but he somehow managed to get me. I later discovered he was a Congolese man living in Tanzania. My late mother wasn’t happy about it either,” she revealed.

The relationship, which lasted ten years, was marred by abuse, illness, and repeated heartbreak. “He was always drunk and abusive. I suffered miscarriages—four times—and my health deteriorated during that period,” Nyanga explained.
The shocking truth about her partner came to light when he insisted on joining her for a media interview. It was during this interview that she learned he was an assistant witch doctor. “I used to earn a lot of money from club shows, around KSh 500,000 per event, but I lost everything. Looking back, I believe he did something to me,” she added.
Nyanga’s ordeal worsened when her partner invited another witch doctor to live with them, further deepening her confusion and distress. She also recounted a terrifying encounter while interviewing a witch doctor in Umoja 1, where she witnessed ritualistic summoning of spirits.
“There were strange chants, and it took nearly an hour for the spirits to appear. By the time the seventh spirit arrived, my colleague had fainted. The spirits warned me not to publish anything that would harm them,” Nyanga said, adding that the experience left her shaken.
Seeking deliverance, Nyanga turned to pastors for prayers and underwent spiritual cleansing. However, her colleague, who had joined her during the interview, declined similar help and tragically passed away six months later.
In another related story, Kenyan woman Joyce Wairimu revealed her use of witchcraft to manipulate wealthy married men. She claimed waist beads and other charms played a significant role in her schemes, offering a chilling cautionary tale to unsuspecting individuals.
