“Police officers visited the scene and established that one Tom Mboya Adala had committed suicide by shooting himself using a pistol on the right side of the head,” read part of the police report. The 54-year-old officer was living with his nephew, Francis Oduor, who reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station.

Oduor reported that he last saw Adala on Monday evening, June 3, at 10:00 p.m. as he went to sleep in his room upstairs inside the officer’s house. However, on Tuesday morning, the officer was not seen in his house up to around 9:00 a.m., which prompted Oduor and the officer’s house help to look for him. They later found Adala lying dead inside the servants quarters after which Oduor called his relatives, who informed the police of the scene.

At the scene, a Glock 19 pistol and a magazine loaded with three rounds were recovered. One spent cartridge was also recovered.

When senior NIS officers visited his bedroom, they recovered a magazine loaded with 13 rounds and a suicide note placed on the bed.
