Salasya: “Youngest President in East Africa by 2027?”

In a passionate and prayer-filled speech, Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has confidently declared that he will become the youngest President in East and Central Africa if elected in 2027.

Speaking during a series of homecoming rallies in Kakamega County on June 7, 2025, Salasya exuded confidence and conviction, stating that he will liberate Kenya and bring transformative change to the nation.

With a fervent prayer, Salasya sought divine intervention to help him realize his dream, promising that he will bless Kenya if elected President.

He emphasized that since colonization, he will be the youngest leader to hold the position in East and Central Africa, urging Kenyans to mark his words.

Salasya also made bold claims about his campaign, stating that he has not spent a single cent to attract crowds during his nationwide tours.

Instead, he attributes his success to the love and support of the people, saying that “you can’t buy people’s love.” He drew inspiration from Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré, citing his achievements as a young leader and promising to introduce similar transformative ideas in Kenya.

However, Salasya also took a swipe at President William Ruto’s recent apology to Kenyan youth during the 2025 National Prayer Breakfast, arguing that forgiveness must be accompanied by job creation.

With youth expected to make up more than half of the electorate in the 2027 polls, Salasya is positioning himself as a serious contender, intensifying his meet-the-people tours across the country.

Despite facing criticism and controversy, including his arrest on hate speech allegations and concerns about the source of funds used to finance his campaign, Salasya remains undeterred.

He has denied receiving external funding, insisting that he relies solely on his MP salary to fund his campaign.

As Salasya prepares to wrap up his nationwide campaign with a major homecoming rally in Western Kenya, his bold claims and passionate speeches have generated significant interest and attention.

Will he succeed in his bid to become East and Central Africa’s youngest President? Only time will tell.
