Ruto’s Cabinet Shake-Up Sparks Uproar – Senator Maanzo Sounds the Alarm!

A political storm is brewing after Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto’s decision to nominate Geoffrey Ruku, the Mbeere North MP, as the new Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes.

If Parliament greenlights the move, Ruku will replace Justin Muturi, who has been abruptly shown the door. But Maanzo isn’t holding back—he’s calling this a catastrophic misstep that could spell doom for Ruku’s political career.

“Ruto has effectively destroyed Ruku’s future. Muturi paved the way for him, and now that he’s been thrown into the Cabinet, I guarantee he’ll never win another election. This administration’s days are numbered,” Maanzo declared in a no-holds-barred interview.

The senator also took aim at Ruto’s handling of Muturi, painting him as a seasoned statesman who had been repeatedly sidelined. As a former Speaker of the National Assembly, Muturi played a pivotal role in governance, yet his legal counsel was allegedly disregarded when he served as Attorney General—a snub Maanzo believes led to his politically charged dismissal.

But the controversy doesn’t stop there.

Maanzo blasted Ruto’s upcoming tour of Mount Kenya, dismissing it as a desperate PR stunt rather than a genuine attempt to address the region’s grievances.

“This is a colossal blunder. Instead of fixing the country, Ruto is wasting resources on premature campaigns for 2027,” Maanzo lashed out.

Muturi’s ouster comes hot on the heels of his criticism of the government’s response to the abductions and killings of Gen Z protestors—including his own son—fueling speculation that he was purged for daring to challenge the regime.

Meanwhile, Ruku’s nomination is being seen as a calculated power move. With rising discontent in Mount Kenya over unfulfilled promises, Ruto appears to be betting on Ruku, a staunch loyalist, to tighten his grip on the region. By sidelining Rigathi Gachagua and throwing his weight behind Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Ruku has emerged as a key player in the political chess game.

As Ruto prepares for his first post-Gachagua visit to Mount Kenya, all eyes are on how this high-stakes maneuver will unfold. Will Ruku’s appointment cement Ruto’s influence, or will it backfire spectacularly? The nation is watching.
