Chaos erupted in Keroka town on Friday, May 2, as deafening chants of “Ruto Must Go!” ripped through the crowd during the explosive return of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
In viral footage seen by Wamuzinews.co.ke, an electrified sea of supporters swarmed the streets, some screaming “Matiang’i!” while others roared with raw defiance against the current regime.
This marked Matiang’i’s first fiery appearance back on the political scene, kicking off what many are calling a stormy tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties.
While addressing an emotionally charged gathering in Nyansiongo, Nyamira County, a fired-up Matiang’i vowed to unite with like-minded leaders for what he described as a historic political showdown ahead of the 2027 general election.

“I’ve heard your cries—I won’t stand alone. I will walk with leaders who share our dream. We start this journey today,” Matiang’i declared passionately.
Flanked by key political heavyweights—Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, Kisii Senator Richard Onyoka, Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, and Senator Okong’o Omogeni—Matiang’i’s return sent shockwaves through the country’s political circles.
His rally comes hot on the heels of his alliance with a rising opposition force that includes former DP Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Justin Muturi, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and others—now being dubbed the “New Resistance.”
Having just returned from a high-level World Bank assignment in the U.S. on April 17, Matiang’i is now being pushed to run for President in 2027 under the Jubilee Party banner—setting the stage for a battle that could shake the nation’s leadership to its core.
