Instead of a traditional coffin, Patel’s body was displayed seated upright in a high chair. It was adorned with neck decorations as it was transported through the streets of Mombasa. This unusual ceremony was designed to allow those who had never met him in life to pay their final respects.
The procession began at Pandya Memorial Hospital, where Patel’s body had been kept for three days. It was transported in a special vehicle. The vehicle made five stops at Hindu temples. This was along the route to the New Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj Hall in Nyali.
The entire event lasted approximately three hours, reflecting Patel’s wish to be seen by the community he had served. His assistant, Imtiaz Sayani, confirmed that this exhibition was according to Patel’s final wishes. He emphasized Patel’s humble nature and reluctance to seek public attention during his life.
After the public viewing, Patel’s body was taken to his home for a brief period. This allowed family and close friends to say their goodbyes. The body was then moved to the New Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj Hall, where thousands gathered to honor him.
Leaders from various sectors paid tribute. Patel’s body remained seated in the center of the hall throughout the ceremony. This symbolized his connection to the community.
