Raila Odinga Slams Termination of Adani Deal as Major Blow to Kenya’s Development.

Raila warned that scrapping the ambitious airport and energy projects amounts to a setback for Kenya’s growth agenda.

Raila Warns Against Hasty Termination.

Raila said he does not regret supporting the Adani contracts, which included a 30-year concession to expand and manage Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and a KSh 95 billion electricity line project.

He described the termination as “unfortunate” and lamented that it “paints Kenya as hostile to private investment,” despite his earlier endorsement based on Adani’s track record .

PPP Push and Infrastructure Vision at Risk.

The Adani deals were central to Raila’s vision of using public-private partnerships to accelerate development without overburdening taxpayers. He argued that Kenya cannot rely solely on domestic funding, stating bluntly, “People need to understand this.

The government cannot finance development projects on the basis of taxation” .Political Tensions Over Investment ClimateRaila’s stance contrasts sharply with President Ruto’s, who terminated the deals citing credible corruption concerns after Adani Group founder Gautam Adani faced a U.S. indictment over alleged bribery.

The cancellation was applauded by many Kenyans but drew criticism from Raila, who cautioned it might undermine confidence in Kenya’s PPP policies .
