President Ruto to Uganda for African Union Summit

President William Ruto has departed for an official visit to Kampala, Uganda.

According to a statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Saturday, January 11, Ruto left in the morning for the one-day engagement.

He will participate in the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), where he will highlight the progress made by his government in tackling food security and poverty.

“CAADP, a crucial initiative under AU Agenda 2063, aims to eliminate hunger and poverty through agriculture-led development and to transform Africa’s agri-food systems,” the statement noted.

“The summit will evaluate progress towards the established targets and seek to adopt the Kampala Declaration, which will define a common vision for transforming agri-food systems from 2026 to 2035. The outcomes are anticipated to influence agricultural policies that promote economic growth and ensure food security across the continent. “

State House also announced that President Ruto would hold discussions with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

“The talks will focus on building consensus and support for Ruto’s position as the Champion of AU Institutional Reforms, ahead of his first progress report on the reform agenda,” added State House.

This marks Ruto’s second international trip this year; his first was to Ghana for the inauguration of President John Mahama.
