NHIF Clarifies Advertising 11,600 Vacancies on Ksh45,850 Salary Per Month.

The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has addressed claims that it is at an advanced stage of recruiting over 11,000 new employees following the implementation of the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

In a statement dated Sunday, February 11, NHIF dismissed the reports that the Ministry of Health was recruiting.

NHIF further flagged a poster which had gone viral announcing the vacancies terming it as fake. The misleading poster announced that NHIF was looking to employ Data Entry Clerks reserving 40 positions for every constituency. The flagged poster also indicated that the hired Data Entry Clerks would earn Ksh45,850 for 24 months. To hoodwink the unsuspecting Kenyans, the poster also included various allowances, and qualifications and even listed the application procedure.

However, NHIF warned Kenyans not to fall for the employment scheme. The parastatal insisted that employment opportunities will be shared via its official pages.SHIF is the scheme replacing NHIF which Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha argued was plagued by graft and captured by some private hospitals.

“The system that we have had (NHIF) predominantly has been curative in nature; that it waits for you to get sick then it treats you. What we’re moving to is preventive and promotive in nature; so that we try as much as possible to prevent citizens from getting sick,” she stated.

“We try as much as possible to promote good health amongst the citizens, and that is why we’re doing it with our Community Health Promoters; that they get into households and shift people’s thinking that you don’t have to wait until you’re sick, that if only you engaged in proper sanitation, there’s something that you’re going to avoid.”

In the new medical scheme, salary deductions have been capped at 2.75 per cent.
