Mystery Deepens as Jirongo Family Rejects Police Account of His Death.

In a highly dramatic development that came in the wake of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo’s death, the family of the deceased politician has, through the media, demanded that the government carry out an extensive investigation into the cause of the accident that killed Jirongo, thereby raising the ante and ringing the bell for accountability once again in the case of national security bodies.

According to police sources, Jirongo, who was 64 at the time of his death, was involved in a hideous collision between his Mercedes vehicle and a passenger bus on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway close to Karai, near Naivasha, at around 3 a.m. on December 13, 2025.

To all intents and purposes, there had been a crash on the highways. Police assert he lost control of his car prior to the crash with the bus that was coming towards him.In contrast, Jirongo’s relatives and the inner circle of friends are advocating for a different take on the accident, thus leading to further confusion regarding his last movements on the day of the unfortunate incident.

During the gathering for prayers at the family’s home in Nairobi, the relatives told the church they were puzzled by the fact that the former MP was in Naivasha at all, a place that was very far from his usual route and a place he had no intention of going.

According to family sources, Jirongo was at Karen the night of December 12 and was due to return to his residence in Gigiri, Nairobi. But this did not happen, as he was found dead on the highway heading for the capital after having been in a very northern location without any publicized reason for his being there.

“How did he end up in the car, in Naivasha, and driving back to Nairobi?” George Khaniri, the co-chair of the burial committee, asked, thereby highlighting the serious concerns that have arisen over the unaccounted-for discrepancies in the timeline of his last hours.

Fred Gumo, the former Westlands MP who leads the funeral committee, reiterated the family’s call for clarification, and he invited the authorities and the detectives to deploy all possible technology, such as CCTV and surveillance data, to monitor Jirongo’s path from Karen to Naivasha.

Gumo stated that the lack of independent corroboration or witnesses points to a state-led inquiry as the one and only credible means of getting to the bottom of the matter regarding the exact order of events that led to the deadly collision.

The family’s expectation of accountability is further reinforced as the burial is to be Jirongo’s, for which the date is December 30, 2025, at his Lumakanda home in Kakamega County, where he will be interred next to his parents, so his grave will not be far from theirs.

The inconsistency between the police accident report and the family’s claims has stirred public discussion and speculation, thus revealing the public’s fear of the lack of transparency and the unavailability of due process in the case of deaths of influential people.

Some of Jirongo’s supporters maintain that the official version of the events does not explain the various irregularities, such as the fact that he was driving alone at an hour when he should have been on the highway right next to the major road.
