Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has taken a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his alleged intention to mobilize protests if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office.
Speaking on Monday evening, the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary accused Gachagua of advancing a personal political agenda by urging Mt. Kenya residents to engage in demonstrations while other regions focus on economic progress.
Kuria stated that while he respects individuals’ rights to pursue their political interests, it is irresponsible to call for protests that could put young people from Mt. Kenya in harm’s way.
“I have no issue with anyone pushing their political goals. But telling young people from my region to take to the streets and risk their lives while others focus on development is purely selfish,” Kuria posted on his X account.
In his rebuke, Kuria challenged Gachagua to lead by example, suggesting that he should first protest alongside his own children before encouraging others to join him.
Kuria’s remarks came after Gachagua declared his readiness to organize mass protests should Chief Justice Koome be ousted or arrested.
During a Sunday, February 9, interview with Kikuyu radio stations, Gachagua vowed not to allow Koome to be removed under circumstances similar to his own impeachment.
He warned that leaders from the Mt. Kenya region would not stand idly by if the government attempted to weaken or sideline officials from the area.
Gachagua also alleged that President William Ruto’s administration was orchestrating a larger plot to weaken the Supreme Court ahead of the 2027 elections.
“They want to remove Martha Koome just like they removed me. This time, we won’t remain silent—if they oust her, we will take to the streets and block the roads,” he declared.
He further revealed that youths from the region had expressed frustration with his previous advice to remain calm during his impeachment, indicating a growing sentiment of discontent.
