Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua faces scrutiny to support his assertions about the ongoing abductions. Gachagua previously alleged that these abductions are part of a coordinated effort by President William Ruto’s government to silence dissenters. He claimed that an abduction unit, reportedly led by a man named Abel, operates out of a 21st-floor building in Nairobi and is connected to a senior government official.
“There exists a unit that operates independently of the Inspector General of Police, located on the 21st floor of a building in the city center. This unit is led by a Mr. Abel, who is a cousin to a prominent government official,” Gachagua stated. “If this unit is not disbanded, we will disclose the building’s name and the full identity of that officer and his cousin. You can guess who commands that unit. “
In response, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni urged Gachagua to provide evidence regarding the abductions. Kioni criticized Gachagua for diminishing the seriousness of the issue, emphasizing its sensitivity. He warned that such severe accusations without substance could undermine public trust among Kenyans, particularly as families hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
“His claims about naming those involved, without actionable evidence, are irresponsible and disrespectful to the families enduring these hardships,” Kioni’s statement noted. “This is not a trivial matter or an opportunity for vague statements. He must either present solid information to the public or stop making misleading comments. ”
