In a sharp and unexpected political turn, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka today forcefully dismissed swirling rumors that he is poised to abandon the opposition and join President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the crucial 2027 elections.
Speaking candidly during a podcast interview, Kalonzo slammed the rumors as baseless, calling them manufactured efforts to sow distrust. “Where did this ‘last-minute joining’ narrative come from? I have always followed a deliberate process: consult, pray, then act,” he declared, reaffirming that his political decisions stem from deep reflection, not opportunism.
His comments come amid increasingly aggressive overtures from the ruling side. Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi recently hinted publicly that Kalonzo would eventually align with Ruto and Raila Odinga to “push the nation forward.” Similarly, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has courted him privately, banking on his seasoned leadership for broader coalition-building.
Kalonzo stood firm, accusing the regime he opposes of being “oppressive” and holding “our children’s blood on its hands”—a clear rebuke of the administration’s handling of past crackdowns. He also derided the notion of a make-peace plot, insisting the only moves he makes are with conscience and principle in mind.
This announcement thrusts Kalonzo back into the spotlight as a major opposition linchpin—signaling that Kenya’s 2027 electoral battle is far from settled. The politician’s loyalty to Azimio’s resistance bloc, combined with his alliance skills, continue to be seen as critical leverage in both opposition and ruling strategies.
