ON August 1, 1982, Raila Odinga and others attempted to overthrow the Moi administration. They failed. Things have never been the same. But I can say confidentially that 42 years later, the alleged similar attempt by GEN Zs supported by Mt Kenya billionaires (I don’t which one in particular) together with Ford Foundation and Wambugu Ngunjiri, was more successful than the 1982 one seven folds. I am not sure if Moi disbanded his entire cabinet within a week of the attempt. I will read more on that. But for months there was a national curfew. And I can’t quite recall how many kids were found in the City Morgue. I was only 10, but I remember my mother’s friend Ruth Wamuciî Mwatha coming to our home and breaking the news that the military had taken over.
