Hassan Omar is named acting secretary general by UDA after Cleophas Malala was fired.

The party’s vice chairman, Hassan Omar Hassan, was named acting secretary general after Malala was fired.

“This rescinds the appointment of Hon. Cleophas Malala as the acting Secretary General. These modifications take effect right away,” stated a portion of the UDA release.

The party claims that following the recent events within UDA, extensive and collaborative deliberations on the next line of action led to the decision to fire Malala.

In an effort to advance its agenda and establish a unique model for an inclusive, collaborative, and participatory organization, the party pledged to make additional changes to its administrative procedures and governance.

“As the governing and policy-making organ of the Party, the NEC plays an essential role in driving the political agenda of the party,” the UDA said in a statement.

The National Elections Board was also instructed by the party’s National Executive Committee to make the required modifications and carry out the previously announced grassroots elections.

The NEC said that the elections would give UDA party members a chance to select the leaders they want to see lead them from the polling place all the way to the national level.

“Over time, we must continually realign our policies and political guidance with the broader national political landscape and our collective aspirations,” the party stated.

Malala was removed from office two days after a group of UDA party leaders called an urgent meeting to discuss the recent rift within the party structure.
