In a statement on his official X page on Thursday, Jeremiah Kioni criticized Rigathi Gachagua, cautioning him against trivializing the issue of abductions, which he described as a life-threatening crisis.

Kioni, an ally of Uhuru Kenyatta, called out Gachagua for failing to act responsibly despite claiming to know those behind the abductions, labeling such silence as a betrayal to affected families.

He referenced Gachagua’s earlier remarks on December 27, where the former Deputy President threatened to expose a covert unit allegedly involved in abductions. Kioni condemned the comments as reckless and demanded concrete action instead of vague threats.

“Gachagua must stop politicizing abductions. His statements without actionable solutions are an insult to the families suffering these tragedies,” Kioni remarked, urging him to lead responsibly and provide clarity rather than theatrics.

Kioni further challenged Gachagua to avoid misleading the public with unverified allegations and instead focus on addressing the nation’s concerns with urgency. He called for seriousness in tackling the rising cases of abductions, emphasizing that lives are at stake.

In response to the abduction crisis, Gachagua had claimed knowledge of a rogue unit allegedly operating outside the police command structure. He alleged the group, led by someone named “Abel,” a relative of a senior government official, works from a Nairobi city center building.

“If this unit isn’t disbanded, I will reveal the building, the officer’s identity, and his cousin’s name,” Gachagua warned.

The comments followed the disappearance of six youths during Christmas, adding to mounting concerns over the rising number of abductions. President William Ruto has since assured the public of his government’s commitment to ending these incidents and ensuring accountability.
