Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua has written to Inspector General Douglas Kanja raising alarm over an alleged plan to disrupt a scheduled political rally in Kikuyu Town.
In a letter dated April 10, seen by wamuzinews.co.ke Gachagua claimed that there are coordinated efforts involving goons and sections of the police to interfere with the party’s meeting scheduled for April 11.

The former Deputy President has accused the Majority Leader in the National Assembly and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah of making both direct and indirect threats targeting the planned rally.
He cited remarks allegedly made by Ichung’wah during a public event at Alliance High School grounds on March 25, as well as statements in Parliament on April 9, which he claimed point to prior knowledge of possible disruptions.
At the same time, Gachagua argued that despite the alleged threats, no action has been taken against the legislator, raising concerns about what he termed ” selective enforcement of the law”.
According to the DCP leader, intelligence reports indicate that groups of hired goons are being mobilised to cause chaos, vandalise businesses, and trigger police intervention during the rally.
“The organised goons are to create mayhem, vandalise people’s businesses, and attack targeted establishments in order to trigger the police, who will join in by using teargas and ammunition in veiled intervention, but in reality, the police will be stepping in as backup to the goons with an aim of scuttling our meeting,” Gachagua alleged.
The letter also alleges plans to block key roads leading into Kikuyu Town using stalled heavy vehicles, a move intended to hinder access to the rally venue and expose attendees to attacks.
Additionally, Gachagua pointed to alleged planning meetings involving local administrators and police commanders, claiming coordination aimed at frustrating the political gathering.
“We are asking you as the Inspector General of the National Police Service to stop the police from being used to harm the very people you are supposed to protect and to deal with the goons and the organised violence against our meeting,” Gachagua stated in the letter.
The developments follow heated comments between the former DP and President William Ruto during the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho’s funeral on Wednesday this week, where Gachagua asked the Head of State to tame Ichung’wah or risk losing his political legacy.
However, in a rejoinder, President Ruto slammed the DCP boss for appearing to dictate who and what should be done to leaders in authority, including the President himself.
