Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting with a group of lawyers at his Wamunyoro residence in Mathira, Nyeri County, on the morning of Saturday, February 8.
The legal team, drawn from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and led by Steve Mbugua, engaged in what Gachagua termed an open and insightful discussion on the state of the nation’s politics.
“It was a deep and enlightening conversation that shed light on their perspectives and offered critical insights into governance. They shared a range of views on constitutional matters and human rights, emphasizing the need to safeguard the freedoms of all citizens,” he noted.

Gachagua further expressed confidence in the legal fraternity’s role in shaping the country’s political direction, affirming that such engagements would continue.
His meeting comes months after his dramatic impeachment in October 2024, following a rift with President William Ruto. Since his removal, Gachagua has positioned himself as a key critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, forging alliances with opposition figures like Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua.
Amid growing political tensions, he has hinted at forming a new political party to challenge Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
