In a fiery address at Christ’s Joy Christian Church in Ndunyu Chege, Murang’a County, Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua slammed claims that he predicted post-election chaos in 2027—insisting his words were twisted.
Gachagua clarified Sunday that his message was a stark warning, echoing the fears of many Kenyans: President William Ruto must not tamper with the 2027 polls.
“Let me be clear—I never said Kenya will plunge into anarchy. What I said is simple: if there is any rigging, we risk repeating the nightmare of 2007-2008,” he told the crowd.
The former Deputy President called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to act with integrity and deliver a transparent election.

He cautioned, “If violence erupts after the 2027 vote, it will dwarf the horrors we’ve seen before. History is a harsh teacher.”
Gachagua also used the pulpit to condemn the 2024 Finance Bill, blaming it for igniting unrest in the past and urging the government to think twice before pushing it through.
“Our leaders must speak up when the nation faces danger. Warning doesn’t mean endorsing violence; it means recognizing a threat before it spirals out of control,” he said.
Just days earlier, during a tense interview on Obinna TV, Gachagua warned that any meddling by IEBC in the upcoming elections could trigger chaos worse than 2007.
“If the IEBC cheats, 2007 will look like a Christmas party,” he declared bluntly.
Kenya watches nervously as the countdown to 2027 begins, with Gachagua’s chilling warning hanging heavy in the air.
