“Don’t Think You Cannot Be Arrested” — Kindiki Issues Stark Warning to Opposition.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki today delivered a chilling ultimatum to political figures allegedly fueling recent youth-led violence, announcing that no one is above the law—even those who believe themselves untouchable.

Addressing a riled public gathering in Kitui County on Friday afternoon, Kindiki accused certain politicians of infiltrating protests under the guise of youth activism, intent on triggering nationwide chaos. “We are not going to wait for the chaos to happen. We will come to you from your house,” he warned, in remarks reported by Nairobi Leo.

According to Kindiki, the recent unrest was not spontaneous but engineered: “The recent violence in the protests was a result of political incitement,” he stated. He added that some leaders speak with dangerous swagger, imagining themselves immune from arrest: “They are people who say they are warriors and cannot be arrested.”

Kindiki took aim not only at political operatives but also at religious institutions and diplomats, accusing them of stoking tensions before protests erupted. “Do they think they know Kenya better than us?” he asserted, underscoring his belief that external actors must not be allowed to undermine national stability.

The Deputy President’s comments echoed the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s earlier declaration that the protests amounted to an attempted coup—an accusation met with fierce rebuttal from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua claimed that state agents orchestrated the violence to frame Gen Z demonstrators. “Your police allowed goons into town… to cause mayhem and place the blame on the Gen Zs,” he charged

As tensions escalate ahead of planned demonstrations, Kindiki’s warning signals a stern posture from the government: those inciting unrest—no matter their status—will face consequences. The unfolding standoff sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown, with civil liberties and political accountability hanging in the balance.
