Why is There Domestic Opposition to RAILA ODINGA’s AUC Chair Bid? – MUDAVADI Questions
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has expressed confusion regarding the local resistance to Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).
In a recent NTV interview, Mudavadi questioned why many Kenyans oppose Raila Odinga’s AUC bid, considering he represents Kenya.
“Why would anyone not want a fellow Kenyan to achieve success in a continental role that we have not held in decades?
“Is it jealousy? Is it pettiness or malice? These are the questions we find ourselves asking,” Mudavadi stated.

He further commented on the actions of certain Kenyans who have utilized social media and other communication channels to discourage other African nations from backing Odinga’s candidacy.
“For the first time, Kenya has a tremendous opportunity to chair the African Union Commission, which we have never done before.
“Why would a Kenyan feel resentment that another Kenyan might have such an opportunity?
“Is there really a need to send messages to various governments on the continent urging them not to support the Kenyan candidate? ” Mudavadi questioned.
Raila Odinga is currently leading the race to succeed Mousa Faki as the next AUC chairperson, with African heads of state and government expected to make their decisions in February.
