Nyamira Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo is once again confronting an impeachment attempt after Members of the County Assembly tabled a fresh motion seeking his removal from office. This marks the third impeachment effort against him in two years, signalling deep and persistent divisions within the county’s leadership.
The new motion was introduced by Bonyamatuta MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere during a special sitting held on November 17. He accused Governor Nyaribo of gross misconduct, abuse of office, irregular appointments, and violations of the Constitution. The motion also cites concerns over the management of county funds and alleged misappropriation of development resources.
This latest attempt follows heightened scrutiny by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, which recently raided the governor’s residence and county offices as part of an investigation into a multi-million shilling contract flagged for irregularities. The assembly now argues that the probe reinforces their concerns about the governor’s conduct in office.
Governor Nyaribo has previously fought off similar attempts. In October 2024, he survived impeachment by a narrow margin after the motion fell short by a single vote. Earlier efforts in 2023 also collapsed after failing to secure the required threshold. His allies insist that the repeated motions are politically driven and meant to destabilize his administration.
Despite the governor’s defence team dismissing the charges as unfounded, the renewed effort has reopened political tensions in a county already struggling with leadership disputes. Some MCAs argue that only a decisive vote can restore confidence in county governance, while others warn that a rushed impeachment could trigger further instability.
The assembly is expected to debate the motion in the coming days. If the required numbers are met, the matter will be forwarded to the Senate for a full trial. The outcome could reshape Nyamira’s political landscape and determine the future of its current administration.
For now, residents remain divided, waiting to see whether this third impeachment attempt will succeed or end like the previous two.
