Chaos at Raha Fest as Tear Gas Disrupts New Year’s Eve

The Raha Fest New Year’s Eve celebrations at Uhuru Gardens ended in chaos, leaving revelers frustrated as disorder marred the highly anticipated event.

What began as a promising night featuring international and local artists soon descended into turmoil. Videos circulating on social media show Jamaican star Shenseea performing briefly before being escorted offstage by a security guard. This came after police released tear gas near the venue, causing panic among attendees.

Another clip captured a stampede as ticketless individuals forced their way into the grounds, further fueling the disorder. Police used tear gas to manage the unruly crowd, but their intervention only intensified the mayhem.

Shenseea expressed her displeasure on social media, saying, “Kenya, I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit mad.” Her comment echoed the sentiments of fans who were left disappointed by her abbreviated performance.

Tanzanian icon Alikiba, who also performed, took a lighter approach, joking on X, “First time experiencing tear gas, but the show must go on. RAHAFEST Hapa ni amani tu.”

Despite the star-studded lineup, the event was overshadowed by the chaos, leaving both fans and performers disheartened.
