Additionally to endorsing Odinga, Azimio la Umoja reflected on Kenya’s Constitution’s 14th anniversary. They emphasized its role in democracy. They also highlighted power devolution and human rights protection.
The coalition acknowledged the Constitution’s achievements while also addressing ongoing challenges like corruption and inequality.
They called for renewed efforts to uphold the Constitution’s principles for a just and prosperous nation.
Four senior African politicians from Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, and Mauritius have also declared their candidature for the AUC’s top post.
The African Union will hold elections at its February summit to select a successor to Moussa Faki Mahamat.
This year’s role is reserved for an East African representative. Candidates including Raila Odinga among others are vying for the position.
