SHOCKING: Blogger Dies in Custody — Ruto Breaks Silence, Orders Full Probe Amid CCTV Tampering Claims.

The mysterious death of popular Kenyan blogger Albert Ojwang behind bars has jolted the nation — and now, it’s shaken the presidency. In a dramatic turn of events, President William Ruto has stepped into the storm, demanding an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident that has sparked public outrage and raised chilling questions about police conduct.

In an urgent statement issued by State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, Ruto instructed the National Police Service (NPS) to fully collaborate with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to get to the bottom of the shocking death.

“I call upon the National Police Service to work hand in hand with IPOA and ensure a swift, transparent, and credible investigation into the tragic death of Albert Ojwang,” Ruto declared.

The president’s words come as pressure mounts nationwide, with activists, leaders, and citizens demanding accountability for what many are calling a “state-sponsored silencing.”

CCTV TAMPERING AND A SENATE BOMBSHELL

The investigation took an even darker twist after IPOA’s deputy chairperson, Ann Wanjiku, revealed during a Senate session that crucial CCTV footage from the Central Police Station — specifically from the OCS’s office — had been tampered with. The implication? A possible cover-up at the highest level of police operations.

This revelation has further fueled speculation about foul play, raising fears of a larger conspiracy and systemic rot within the police service.

Ruto: “This is Unacceptable.”

President Ruto didn’t mince words as he called out the very forces meant to protect the public.

“It is both heartbreaking and unacceptable that such a tragedy could occur while someone was in police custody,” he said. “I strongly condemn any act — whether through neglect or criminal intent — that may have contributed to Ojwang’s death.”

He emphasized that every officer must be held accountable.

“When police arrest someone, they take full responsibility for that individual’s life, safety, and dignity. There can be no room for carelessness or abuse.”

Ruto Denies Involvement, Demands Justice

In a clear move to distance himself from the swirling allegations, Ruto insisted he had no hand in any operational decisions that led to the arrest or mistreatment of the late influencer.

“I was personally shocked by the details of this case. Justice must prevail,” he stated firmly.

The Bigger Picture: A Broken System?

The president also took a moment to reflect on his controversial move to grant the police financial and institutional independence — a decision he said was made to promote professionalism and integrity. But now, with yet another citizen dead under mysterious circumstances in police custody, that very independence is under scrutiny.

“Our security services must root out crime and lawlessness — not become part of it,” Ruto added, signaling a potential overhaul in police accountability measures.

As the country mourns Ojwang, questions continue to swirl: What really happened inside that cell? Who tampered with the evidence? And will the truth ever see the light of day?

One thing is certain — Kenya is watching.
