Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, the fiery Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), is preparing to unleash a legal storm on the Nation Media Group (NMG) over what he describes as a deliberate and defamatory hit job.
On Saturday, May 10, Mutua went public with explosive revelations—accusing the Nation Media Group of publishing a fabricated notice claiming he had been fired from his position. According to the embattled CEO, this wasn’t just poor journalism—it was a calculated smear campaign, despite prior warnings from him to the media house that the claims were false.
The drama thickens. Mutua revealed that the night before the publication, he uncovered unauthorized financial transactions from MCSK’s official bank account—one of which suspiciously pointed to a payment made to the media company. Alarm bells went off, prompting an immediate report to the Banking Fraud Unit under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Following his discovery, Mutua reached out directly to Nation Media’s top brass, exposing what he believed to be a sinister plot. He was assured the advert would not go live after presenting his case and written objections. But to his horror, the misleading notice still made its way into the paper—sending shockwaves across the country.
“I was flooded with messages from concerned Kenyans showing me the bogus notice—despite being told it wouldn’t be published. This was a breach of trust and an attack on my reputation,” Mutua said.
Legal demands swiftly followed. A formal letter from Mutua’s lawyers ordered a public apology and retraction. Nation Media’s silence in response? Deafening. And now, Mutua says the matter is heading straight to court.
The uproar follows an official statement from MCSK itself, released just a day prior, slamming the termination claims as false and malicious. Chairman Ephantus Wahome Kamau didn’t hold back—calling out the article as the work of disgruntled former directors whose tenure ended months ago.
“We are deeply alarmed by this reckless notice. Dr. Mutua remains the legitimate CEO. This was a desperate attempt by ousted individuals trying to stir chaos,” Kamau declared.
This unfolding media scandal is shaking the entertainment and journalism sectors alike—raising serious questions about internal sabotage, media ethics, and the integrity of public communication.
