KDF Officer Killed in Brutal Ambush – UN Declares War Crime!

A Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) officer deployed on a UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR) met a tragic end after an ambush by heavily armed militants. The brutal attack, which occurred on Friday, March 28, in Haut-Mbomou, left the officer as the only casualty, sending shockwaves through the peacekeeping community.

Shocking reports reveal that the fallen soldier had been in CAR for less than two months, serving as a military observer before being gunned down in cold blood.

UN REACTS WITH FURY

The United Nations, in a strongly-worded statement, condemned the attack, warning that targeting peacekeepers amounts to a war crime under international law. The global body demanded an urgent probe, urging the CAR government and UN peacekeeping forces (MINUSCA) to track down the perpetrators.

Valentine Rugwabiza, the UN’s Special Representative for CAR, expressed shock and devastation over the killing. “Peacekeepers are there to protect civilians, not to be hunted down,” she declared. A rapid response unit has since been deployed to the scene to secure the area and prevent further bloodshed.

A NATION TORN BY WAR

For over a decade, the Central African Republic has been a battleground of brutal militia warfare, with thousands losing their lives in relentless clashes. The situation spiraled out of control in 2013 when armed factions overthrew the government, forcing President François Bozizé into exile.

While peace efforts led by the African Union and the UN have been underway since 2019, the violence continues to rage on, claiming innocent lives—including those of peacekeepers.

SECOND KENYAN OFFICER TARGETED IN DEADLY MISSIONS

This tragedy comes just days after another Kenyan security officer, Benedict Kabiru, vanished in Haiti following a suspected gang ambush. Authorities fear that Kabiru, part of a controversial Kenyan-led police mission, may have been executed by ruthless criminal gangs.
