Raila Odinga has sounded the alarm over the U.S. government’s drastic cuts to USAID funding, warning of devastating consequences for Kenya and other affected nations. The controversial move, initiated by former President Donald Trump through an executive order, froze foreign aid spending for 90 days—crippling crucial humanitarian programs worldwide.
During a high-profile meeting with U.S. Embassy officials, Odinga emphasized the life-threatening impact of these funding cuts, particularly on healthcare and humanitarian efforts.

“The reduction in USAID funding is a direct threat to essential services. It must be reconsidered,” he urged, sharing his plea on social media.
The effects have already been catastrophic—NGOs reliant on foreign support have shut down, essential aid programs have collapsed, and thousands of jobs have vanished. Families are now struggling as critical services in health, education, and food security remain in jeopardy.
The controversy took a dramatic turn when a U.S. federal judge ruled that the withdrawal of USAID funds likely violated the U.S. Constitution. The ruling ordered that nearly all aid be reinstated, adding another layer of urgency to Odinga’s demand.
With Kenya at risk of losing life-saving assistance, the question remains—will the U.S. government reverse course before it’s too late?
