police to secure shop in sh2Billion Haile Selassie underpass project

Roads Principal Secretary Joseph Mbugua has announced that the new pedestrian underpass at Haile Selassie Avenue will include shops operating 24 hours to improve safety. The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) closed the road on January 16, with an expected completion date of February 20, 2025, to facilitate the construction of this Sh2 billion project.

Mbugua informed members of parliament that police will monitor the underpass continuously to ensure pedestrian safety while providing a vital link between Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) and the Green Park Terminus. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion on Uhuru Highway, allowing safe pedestrian crossings without disrupting traffic.

“We have enhanced social matters by providing spaces for shops below, accommodating businesses even during late hours,” Mbugua stated. “With these businesses, we hope to attract more policing in the area, making it safer for pedestrians. “

The Green Park Terminus Pedestrian Underpass Network along the Uhuru Highway-Haile Selassie intersection is funded through the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) and is expected to serve many residents commuting to Upper Hill and nearby areas.
