A light aircraft crashed at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha on Thursday evening, claiming the lives of two people. Naivasha OCPD Charles Mwai confirmed the accident, stating that rescue operations faced difficulties due to the rugged terrain and poor weather conditions.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) reported that the incident occurred around 5:14 PM, involving a Cessna 185 aircraft. “We regret to confirm that an aircraft accident took place at Kedong Ranch, Naivasha, resulting in the loss of two lives. The initial report was received by the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) from a member of the public,” KCAA stated.
According to reports, the aircraft took off from Wilson Airport at approximately 1:30 PM, heading towards Mbaruk, before it crashed hours later. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident.
The rescue mission continued into the night, with police securing the crash site as investigators arrived to establish the cause of the tragedy. Operations were set to resume on Friday morning.
This incident follows a similar light aircraft crash in Malindi on January 11, where three people lost their lives after a plane crash-landed and burst into flames. That accident occurred shortly after takeoff, with the aircraft failing to make an emergency landing, resulting in the deaths of two boda boda riders and a passenger. The pilot and two others survived with minor injuries.
