President Ruto Hosts Controversial Zimbabwean Businessman Accused of Corruption
President William Ruto is facing scrutiny after hosting Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who has been accused of corruption and money laundering, at his Sugoi residence during Chivayo’s visit to Kenya.
Chivayo posted photos of their meeting on social media, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with President Ruto.
“I had the rare privilege to visit His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, and the First Lady, Mrs. Rachel Ruto, at their farm. Meeting one of Africa’s distinguished leaders was a profound honor, and I was inspired by his humility and dedication to his country,” he tweeted.
Chivayo is embroiled in allegations of corruption linked to a US$40 million electoral tender in Zimbabwe. Last year, the Zimbabwean Anti-Corruption Commission announced plans to investigate him and his former business associates for suspected fraud.
Following the tender deal, Chivayo engaged in extravagant spending, acquiring two Maybach luxury cars within a week. Reports reveal he spent approximately US$3 million on vehicles and cash contributions, leading to concerns over his lavish lifestyle, which includes a fleet of three Maybachs, a rare sight in Zimbabwe and beyond.
