Hamtanipimia hewa in 2025 – RUTO warns protesters in New Year message

President William Ruto cautioned Kenyans against protests this year amidst rising concerns over the abduction of individuals with differing views by suspected State agencies.

In his New Year address, he emphasized that while the Constitution permits protests, they must not infringe on the rights of others or endanger public safety. Ruto stated, “Every freedom has its limits, and maintaining public safety and order is paramount. ” He urged against allowing criminals to exploit constitutional rights for harmful purposes.

His warning came shortly after activists protested the ongoing abductions, resulting in the arrest of 22 individuals, including lawyers and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, who were later released on Ksh1,000 bail.
