Four Pupils Drown in Tana River on Christmas Eve

The event that took place on Tuesday at 5:30 pm was reported this morning at the Waldena police station.

As per a police report, two bodies, a girl and a boy, both between the ages of 10 and 12 years, have been recovered.

“ A male resident of Haroresa stated that four students from Haroresa primary school drowned yesterday while swimming at approximately 1730 hrs on 24/12/2024. A rescue team was formed around 1900 hrs. Two bodies were recovered: a female aged 12 years and a male aged 10 years,” the police report states.

The search for the other two continues.

“ The other two remain unaccounted for, and efforts to find their bodies are ongoing. The sub-county police commander and criminal investigation officer proceeded to the site to collect additional information. Further updates will be provided,” the report adds.

A similar event has been reported in Kesses Sub County in Uasin Gishu, where a 27-year-old man drowned in a hotel swimming pool.

Dennis Kimutai Kemboi was part of a group of 20 young men who checked into the Karen Guest House in Saroiyot Sub-location, Kipchamo Location, Kesses Sub County, around 1 p. m. for a swimming outing.

According to a female receptionist at the guest house, the drowning occurred while the group was swimming.

By around 4 p. m. , it was discovered that Kemboi, who was part of the swimming group, was found at the deep end of the pool.

One group member, Kevin Kipchumba, a 23-year-old man from Nandi and cousin of the deceased, shared that they had been enjoying the swim until 4 p. m. when they realized Kemboi, a boda boda rider from Chepkoilel Stage in Eldoret, had slipped into the deeper part of the pool and drowned.

“ The body, which displayed no apparent physical injuries, has been transported to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary in Eldoret, awaiting a postmortem,” the report indicates.

Meanwhile, an unidentified adult body was discovered floating along the shore of Juba-Shehe Hamisi Beach at 7:00 a. m. by fishermen. This event transpired at Roka Location, Matsangoni.
