DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has indicated that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua nearly experienced a stroke while ill during his impeachment trial at the Senate.
Addressing the media after visiting Gachagua at Karen Hospital on Friday, Wamalwa, joined by Azimio-aligned leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka, stated that doctors at the facility informed him Gachagua was suffering from high blood pressure upon admission.
Wamalwa further noted that Gachagua was under significant stress, which brought him close to having a stroke. “His doctors have told us here today that when he was admitted, he was experiencing serious chest pains.
” In fact, he had significantly elevated blood pressure. . . The stress he experienced brought him close to having a stroke, but he was admitted. “They have managed him,” said Wamalwa. “We express our gratitude to Dr. ” Gikonyo and his team of doctors for the excellent care provided to Rigathi Gachagua.
Wamalwa and Kalonzo criticized the Senate for not allowing Gachagua sufficient time to recover and present himself before the house to defend his position.
“The events that transpired in the Senate last night, while historic, exhibit significant flaws. Kenyans should anticipate extended legal deliberations. “We have not discussed this with Gachagua, but we are aware that his teams have already approached the court,” said Kalonzo. “As senior counsel, the principles of natural justice stipulate that no individual should be condemned without being heard.
” The Azimio leaders, however, conveyed optimism that the former deputy president would receive justice in court.
“We pray and hope that His Excellency’s team appears before the court; they will ensure justice. ” The Senate should have been impartial and permitted Gachagua to present his defense. “The matter, as of today, rests with the judiciary,” said Wamalwa.
