Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo narrowly escaped impeachment. 22 out of 34 Members of the Nyamira County Assembly voted in favor of his impeachment. They fell short of the required 23 votes. This marked the second time the governor survived such a motion.
During the hearing, the governor was absent, represented by his legal team and executive committee. The MCAs accused him of gross violation of the Constitution and incompetence as reasons for seeking his removal from office.
Outside the Assembly, Nyamira residents protested against the governor, demanding their voices be heard. This was not the first time Nyaribo faced impeachment. Eleven months prior, he was accused of similar violations. He managed to keep his position.
The governor’s legal team, led by County Attorney Erustus Orina, successfully defended him against the impeachment allegations. This ensured his continuation in office despite the close vote margin.
