At the scene, Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Zacchaeus Ng’eno confirmed to the media that the 12 were passengers in a Toyota Hiace returning from a Meru parental blessing ceremony.

The commander asserts that the driver was unfamiliar with the highway and was operating in the wrong lane at the time of the collision.” We are confirming that 12 bodies have been collected from this location, with two others injured.

“Ng’eno stated that this accident involved two motor vehicles, one of which was traveling toward Meru and the other toward Nairobi.

“I may assume that the motor vehicle from Meru direction did not stay in the lane as expected and was involved in a head-on collision with a vehicle headed in the opposite direction,” according to the preliminary investigation.

The commander added that two survivors were rushed to Chuka Hospital and Chogoria Mission Hospital for specialized care. He went on to say that the crash resulted in the deaths of eight adults, two of whom were female. We sympathize with those whose lives have been cut short. The quantity of fatalities is 12, 10 grown-ups and 2 kids. 8 female and two male,” he added.

The Tharaka Nithi County Fire and Rescue Department’s chief, Alex Mugambi, and his team also promptly arrived at the accident site to begin rescue operations.

Mugambi cautioned the public against crowding accident scenes during a press conference, stating that doing so could result in additional accidents.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) confirmed the two crashes last night, noting that police officers had been dispatched to the accident scene to handle the situation.

He noted that another vehicle, a Sienta, rammed into a stalled milk lorry at the same scene moments after the collision.

“Two distinct traffic collisions involving public service vehicles have been reported, one at the Nithi Bridge and the other in the Murram area (after Koru).” An NTSA alert stated, “The National Police Service and emergency responders are on scene.”
