Detectives have recovered the body of a 21-year-old student from Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) in Kisumu after she was reported missing earlier this month.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the body was found in Riat Forest by officers from Kisumu West Sub-County, Maseno Police Station and Riat Police Post.
Police said the body was in a decomposing state with knife stab wounds, indicating a violent attack.

“The recovery of the body bearing knife stub wounds follows the earlier arrest of the prime suspect believed to have orchestrated her gang rape, torture and subsequent disappearance, a traumatic event that occurred in Kisumu’s Milimani area on the night of April 5, 2026,” the DCI wrote in a statement.

The discovery came after the arrest of a prime suspect identified by the DCI, who is believed to have orchestrated the violent assault, disappearance and killing of the student.
DCI officers say the case began when the victim sent a distress message to her sister after failed phone calls due to poor network coverage.
In the message, she reportedly indicated that she had been lured into a drinking session with two male acquaintances from her institution before being assaulted and later abandoned in a forested area.
Her phone went off shortly after the message, prompting an urgent search by family members and authorities.
Investigators say forensic analysis and intelligence tracking helped trace the victim’s last known movements to the Milimani area near the Kenya Wildlife Service offices in Kisumu.
Despite early search efforts in the area, she was not immediately found, leading to further investigative work by detectives.
Further probe led to the arrest of the suspect described as a former boyfriend, who reportedly issued a series of threats to the victim over the past two months and repeatedly visited her residence in RIAT to search for her.
He was allegedly seen with a heavily drunk woman on the night in question, said to be the victim shortly before she disappeared.
Police say the suspect was found with items believed to be useful as evidence and seek to establish whether other individuals were involved in the incident.
The suspect is in custody awaiting arraignment as detectives continue investigating circumstances surrounding the death.
