Tiktok rovalry as Majembe Smashes Mbavu Destroyer!

Majembe walked away with a lucrative prize package that included over Sh2.5 million in total winnings, the Vurugu Championship Belt, Sh1 million in cash, a brand new Toyota Noah provided by betting firm Odi Bets, a Taro GP1 sport bike valued at Sh385,000, and a one-year gym membership.

What began as a social media feud on TikTok between two young men from modest backgrounds had, by fight night, transformed into a nationally followed spectacle drawing attention from political leaders, corporates, and thousands of fans.

President William Ruto was among those who backed the event, pledging Sh1 million each to both fighters to support their training ahead of the bout.

He also sponsored 2,000 tickets for fans, bringing his total contribution to Sh4 million.In a light-hearted moment ahead of the fight, the President shared a playful exchange with Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, widely known as Jalango, at State House.

A video circulating on social media showed the two leaders joking about the much-anticipated showdown, underscoring the level of national interest the fight had generated

.The event, organised by promoter Oga Obinna, aimed to elevate local boxing talent and create opportunities for young fighters to transform their lives through sport.

“This is about giving these young men a platform to change their lives and to grow the sport of boxing in Kenya,” Obinna said ahead of the bout.Fans had eagerly awaited the clash, which also featured lively commentary from popular entertainer DJ Afro, also known as James Mwangi, adding to the electrifying atmosphere inside the arena.

The fight night also attracted support from other leaders and business figures. Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri pledged Sh2 million towards the event, while businessman Oketch Salah contributed Sh200,000 in cash to boost the prize pool.

By the time the final bell rang, Majembe had firmly established himself as a rising star in Kenya’s boxing scene, with his emphatic victory marking a turning point in his career.

The Vurugu Fight Night not only showcased raw talent but also highlighted the growing influence of social media in shaping modern sporting narratives, turning an online rivalry into a major sporting event with national appeal.
