Blood on the Streets: Opposition Finger Ruto and Murkomen in Kitengela Rally Execution

The political atmosphere in Kenya has reached a dangerous level because of the brutal murder of Vincent Ayomo at the “Linda Mwananchi” rally in Kitengela. The opposition Members of Parliament have escalated their accusations against President William Ruto and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen by accusing them of leading a government campaign that suppressed opposition through violence.

The opposition, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna with his group of protesters, believes that police killed unarmed demonstrators through an official order that came from top government officials.

The MPs argue that the presence of plainclothes “hit squads” during the Kajiado demonstrations mirrors a darker era of political assassinations, which aimed to silence the movement against the skyrocketing cost of living.

The opposition believes that recent statements made by government officials serve as a security forces license to begin shooting with live ammunition against demonstrators. The lawmakers used specific high-ranking figures to create responsibility, which they believed extended beyond the Inspector General of Police to the State House because it held the moral and legal responsibility for Ayomo’s death.

The political mourning process has been disrupted by this “twisted” development. The opposition represents Vincent Ayomo as more than a riot victim because they see him as a political martyr who died to defend the interests of a government that faced rebellion from its own people. They claim that the Kitengela disorder operated as a “dry run” to implement a wider plan that would outlaw public assembly.

As the body of the 28-year-old remains in the morgue, the demand for accountability has moved from the streets to the floor of Parliament. The opposition has declared that they will refuse all normal operations until authorities identify those responsible for ordering snipers to execute their duties in Kitengela.

With the Friday deadline for police accountability approaching, the President and his Cabinet Secretary have been implicated in a murder case, which will lead to a constitutional crisis that threatens to bring down the current government.
