Moses Nduya Muthama, the only son of Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama, passed away unexpectedly after he collapsed at his home on Wednesday evening, February 4, 2026, which caused Machakos County and the entire nation to experience deep mourning. The first report showed that Moses started having breathing problems, which caused him to collapse, and medical personnel took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon his arrival.
The unexpected death of the young man has created a major impact throughout the Kenyan political and public communities, as people from all political factions share their condolences. Johnson Muthama, who served as senator for Machakos and is the father of Senator Kavindu, leaves behind Moses, who will establish a legacy for his family, which has already experienced multiple losses.
Kitui Senator Enock Wambua led public expressions of sorrow by describing the loss as “devastating” while he extended his deepest condolences to the family who suffered the loss. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama and her entire family during this extremely difficult time,” Wambua stated in a message of condolence.
Family sources say that Moses Nduya Muthama’s body has been taken to a Machakos mortuary, where it will be kept until the postmortem examination determines the actual cause of death. The medical staff at this facility has not provided any additional information about his condition.

The family experienced the death of Moses’s sister Janet Njoki, which occurred in private circumstances, during April 2022.
