A crime that can only be described as savage and extremely shocking has taken place in Kuria East, Migori County, where a baby’s body was found in a terrible state of dismemberment and burning in the middle of a maize plantation, rallying the very fast police investigation and the very wide public outcry.
The requirements have been given as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have taken over the case as communities struggle with the horror of the discovery.
The three-year-old girl, who was named in the neighborhood as the victim, went missing late Sunday when her mother took her to a neighbor’s house while she traveled to a posho mill.
When the mother returned, the girl was gone; hence, the neighbors were called to help her in the search. This search turned into tragedy when the girl’s robot-like body was found in a nearby maize plantation, about a kilometer away from Kegonga Police Station.
Cops reported that the kid’s corpse had a lot of stab wounds in the chest and also burns in the abdomen, showing that there was a very cruel act of violence before she was killed. The officers present at the scene are said to have been shocked by the number of injuries, and the initial forensic processing has started as the detectives are trying to find the motive and the timeline that led to the child’s murder.
As of Tuesday, there have been no arrests made, but the investigators have interviewed at least four people living in the area as part of their inquiry. The local detectives have assured that they are following every possible lead and have even encouraged anyone with any information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, to speak up as the case develops.
The corpse was taken to a mortuary where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death and the possibility of linking the suspects through forensic evidence.
The case has reverberated widely across the local community, where the residents have been mourning the loss and, at the same time, imploring for justice to be done swiftly. The leaders in Migori have not only demanded that the children be safeguarded but have also called for the whole society to be more alert to the issue, thus highlighting a major worry of safety in the countryside, where children’s vulnerability makes it easier for them to be attacked.
