The government has secured KSh.27 billion to connect 280,000 households to electricity under the Last Mile Connectivity Project.

Making the announcement on Monday, May 27, President William Ruto said the funds would strengthen the government’s ambitious plan of achieving universal access to electricity by 2030.

“We are establishing strong and sustainable partnerships with institutions that will increase power connectivity across the country.”The landmark move by the European Union, the European Investment Bank, and the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) to extend Sh.27 Billion to Kenya will connect more than 280,000 households from 32 Counties to the grid, accelerating our universal access by 2030,” remarked President Ruto.

The Head of State noted that the Last Mile Connectivity Project has been a transformative initiative in the country with 9.6 million Kenyans connected to electricity.

“We have witnessed significant progress in our journey towards universal electrification, raising the national access rate from just 27% in 2013 to well over 75% currently.

This means that 9.6 million Kenyan households are connected to electric power,” Ruto stated. He added,” By connecting millions of households to the power grid, we have not only illuminated homes but also empowered communities, enhanced educational opportunities, improved healthcare services, and turned the entire country into one flourishing economic hub. Universal access is therefore fundamental to achieving economic inclusivity.”
